9/11… From A 12-Year Old’s Eyes

The news reports on Afghanistan over the past two weeks have had me bewildered honestly. I’m still stuck on the fact that we (The US Soldiers & Civilians) were in Afghanistan for 20 YEARS! I honestly thought we left Afghanistan years ago…like back in the late 2000s.

North Korea and its leader Kim Jong-un had taken over in the news in the early 2010s replacing Afghanistan & Iraq as the number one threat to the United States. There were talks of a potential nuclear war breaking out between the US and North Korea which had me terrified. Thankfully, it was just that…talks.

Having superhero Dennis Rodman go visit his friend Kim Jong-un didn’t hurt either.

So with all that had taken place during the past decade, Afghanistan had completely left my consciousness…until recent weeks.

Seeing various commentators on YouTube, Instagram, and other social media sites explain why this whole Crusade lasted this long and started took me back to the day it all started…back on September 11, 2001, and where I was when I had seen those unforgettable images in New York City.

THE DAY

On the day of 9/11, the day the world would experience everlasting change, I had already had my life changed forever a few months earlier with the death of my mother that no one in my family saw coming.
