Being Your True Self

There’s a power in allowing your true self to shine that’s just hard to describe, but it’s a discovery that makes you feel like your life is really beginning for the first time.

With the expectation of the lucky few, many of us are encouraged to being someone we're not when we’re teens and demonized if we dare to be our authentic selves. After various messages on what we should or shouldn’t be, our confidence in our true selves is shattered and lost in a sea of lost souls who couldn’t be themselves.

So we try being someone we aren’t, meanwhile, we conceal our true selves in our stomachs as best as we can. Any sign of authenticity will be punished by the fake gatekeepers. ‘’Who told you to be who you really are? For that, you'll NEVER experience happiness from anyone by being your true self.’’

At least, this is how I felt for a long time, so, I did try to be emotionless, untouchable, and cold because this is what I was taught as being a true young man.

For a while, I was successful in being that way. I even made friends with people deep down I had contempt for because of their rude nasty ways. But in my mid-20s, a light bulb went off and this voice told me ‘’This isn’t who you are. Where is that bubbly, free-spirited, and goofy guy at? That’s who you really are. It’s time to be that!’’
