Thank you Wire Editor Newman for tagging me in your great article about Gratitude. And Nancy Blackman, MASF for the great prompt.

What about you?

What have you learned by accepting someone different than yourself? How has it shaped you? Why are you grateful for learning this?

I’ve learned over the years that it’s possible to accept someone different than yourself — if you open your heart and your mind. This won’t mean that we’ll become like the person that’s different from us, but we can respect one another by respecting our differences.

For some reason, a lot of people are very intolerant of someone that different from themselves. Maybe they feel that it’s too much work to connect with those that are different.

I’ll admit though, I’m not very accepting of mean-spirited people or bullies. I’ve tried in the past, and, it would usually end up with me having to compromise for them, which, I cannot do.
