My 15 Favorite James Brown Songs
Good Gawd
Maybe in the future, I’ll do a favorite 100 songs list of him. But for now, 15 will do.
If scientists ever invent the time machine in our lifetime, one of the things I would love to do — is see him & his (out of this world) bands perform in person during the 60s, 70s & 80s.
What looked like a wild-crazed man to me as a kid, became an explosive free-spirited performer on stage as I grew up.
I’ll still try to do that dance move he does, where he has one leg in the air & his other leg is wigging across the stage (that’s a hard dance move to do!) & the splits (another tough dance to get).
His music is so freaking ADDICTIVE!
Sometimes, I’ll listen to his songs while I write, to help me get into that writing groove.
And his screams 😭, I love them!!! You gotta scream that pain out of your system sometimes. And he did A LOT of screaming!
His music is great for dancing & exercise too. It’s probably why I’m still skinny.
It was tough to choose between the studio-recorded version of his songs or his live recordings, with some of my choices — because his live stuff was AMAZING! Here are my favorites in no order.
