General Cornwallis signed out today
Another person who won’t be joining us in 2024
He couldn’t stay any longer
and bless us more with his terrific acting
It’s a shame
Gifted actors like Tom Wilkinson should never die
but alas, we must all
answer the call
when that dreaded ringing comes
I first saw you in The Patriot
My favorite film ever
You’re one of the reasons why
You played General Cornwallis with frustration, humor, respect, and grace
This American teenager rooted for you
that’s how brilliant you were
For a while, that was the role I associated with you
Until I saw you in other projects like Black Knight, Valkyrie, and John Adams
You had a presence that lifted everything you were in
A master in historical roles and… everything you did
Grace and class always came through your roles
Those traits felt like they were a part of your soul
I admire European actors thanks to you, Idris Elba, and many others
You were another actor
that was always a factor
in whatever you were in
So thank you for the characters you gave us
RIP General Cornwallis
