They’re a joy to watch

I’ve never forgotten the day I saw it rain on a beautiful day, with the sun out.

I think I was six or seven when it happened. It was so beautiful, with the rain pouring down hard, with the bright sun shining in our North Carolina yard. A rainbow would come out; only adding to the wonder of what was going on.

It was bewildering to me too; because I was so used to seeing rain with either grey clouds, or when lightning and thunder would terrorize the sky. So seeing rain with the sun and blue skies — was a new experience for me. I asked my dad ‘’what was going on’’, and he responded by telling me ‘’The devil is beating his wife’’.

Hearing that, had me confused & horrified. ‘’Did dad say what I think he just said?’’. Other thoughts started running through my young mind. ‘’Why would the devil beat his wife? He’s gonna go to jail for that…isn’t he?’’. So, every time it starts raining on a clear day, the devil is mad about something; and takes his anger out on his wife.

I felt bad for the wife. That’s not a great hell home to live in.
