The Contact Lens Struggle

Contacts will be the coolest thing to have, or so I thought.

The actual experience was something I never expected or was taught.

I’m in my eye doctor’s office, she reassured me this practice with contacts will be a blast.

She has me to believe that my wearing contacts will last.

I struggle to keep my eyes open when she puts them in.

Okay, time for me to go to this practice table and win.

I’m getting nervous, but at the same time, I’m ready.

A nurse comes over to guide me, be steady Gerald

My hands are washed, I must take my contacts out now.

But how?

It’s been a few tries already on my left eye, I can’t reach it.

The nurse is trying to be patient, a part of me feels like she’s already ready to quit.

I’m getting close, but my eye is feeling abused.

Red tears start to flow, my eye needs to snooze

I rest it and work on my other eye.

Somehow, it was easier to get that contact out..high five!

This gives me some must needed assurance

With the way my left eye feels, I may need to use more insurance

Pull…stop…pull…stop

Try pulling from the top

The nurse is determined to guide this contact out of my right eye

It’s starting to feel dry

Almost..almost..get out!

Finally, I pulled my other contact…victory was never in doubt.

My eye doctor and the nurse are glad for me.

My eyes once again feel free.

Do you think you can put in and take out your contacts? I’m asked

Uh sure. My real answer is masked

I’ll try one more time.

If it’s still too painful for me to take, I’ll have to say goodbye

The contact lens life is over for me!
