The Day I Met Charles Barkley At Walgreens

I was so inspired by KL Simmons's story she did on meeting Bono (from U2) in 1992 (which is amazing in itself!!!), that I wanted to share a memory that I still can’t believe happened to this day.

I never thought I would have the opportunity to run into a famous person in my life. It felt like they lived on another planet out in the solar system. As NBA player Kevin Garnett put it after he won the 2008 NBA Title, ‘’ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!!!’’

This is a true quote.

It’s very possible to come across a well-known person. It’s just a question of when will it happen? For me, it took place six years ago when I was 27.

It was 2016. I was working at a hospital in downtown San Antonio called Nix Health. I was a housekeeper there, so I would clean the areas that I was assigned to.

On some days, it would be a relaxing shift, and on other days the afternoons/nights there could be very stressful — depending on how many patients the hospital had. Cleaning the rooms that a patient needed immediately was particularly stressful to deal with.

Having co-workers you could talk to during those trying times helped a lot; whether they were housekeepers…
