It seems like I’ve been sharing a lot of my fears lately on Medium. So much, that I should start directing horror movies like Jordan Peele. Well, here is another one I used to have during my early teen years.

I had wanted to touch on this subject months ago after reading Daniella Cressman's great piece she did on the Confederate Flag, but, I had so many writing ideas coming to me around that time, this one, got lost in the pile, until now.

Growing up in North Carolina in my early teens, I used to get chills whenever I would see a Confederate flag on the back of someone’s truck, in someone’s yard, or hanging on someone’s house, because of the history behind the flag.

Around the same time, I was really starting to get into American History like The Civil War.

The two sides in that contest were the North (the Union) and the South (the Confederates). The Union wanted to free the black…
