The Phase Of Having An Afro
There was a time period in my life when I was rocking an afro on my head.
I really enjoyed the whole process of letting your hair grow into this wonderful creature on your head, that gives you a different look.
Before I worked hard to grow an afro, I wasn’t really conscious of my hair like that. I had seen my sisters put a lot of emphasis on their hair by reading hair magazines & getting products at these hair stores. I don’t know how they put up with it?
I hated combing my hair or getting it combed. Those combs were so painful to endure! Now, brushing my hair wasn’t bad, I enjoyed doing that occasionally.
The only style I knew was getting was a haircut. I used to love going to the Barbershop with my dad & my younger brother in North Carolina. When haircut time came, the thrill of feeling my hair getting cut, until I could feel the scalp on my head, was an experience that gave me so much life.
The talking part of it, not so much, because I didn't know how to interact socially with a bunch of talkative guys that were adults. So, I just listened unless I had to tell the barber what haircut I was getting (which would usually be this style called a buzz cut).
