The Silent Rejection Hurts The Most
There are a lot of articles on the internet about rejection, but hardly any on rejections that are silent.
These rejections have an everlasting power to them that the loud ones don’t have because there’s no true closure to a chapter that has ended between two people, whether it’s friendship or unrequited love.
At least with a verbal rejection. You’re told no, and although it stings really bad, you have closure & can start to move on from the person that rejected you. With a silent rejection, there is no closure (at least word-wise). Being rejected in this way is a crueler fate to the one that’s being rejected. Contrary to popular belief that the rejected are trying to soften the blow, their strategy has the opposite effect on the rejectee.
They’re insulting the rejectee’s intelligence in believing that they won’t notice the silent rejection. Plus, it’s an ultimate form of disrespect by saying that they're not worthy of being told no (in a reasonable way). Now if it’s a person that has shown to have volatile tendencies, the silent rejection is understandable & a necessary action to take.
But, to a person you’ve to build a great rapport with for weeks, months, or years, the silent rejection can derail a person into a dark abyss if caught off guard.
