It’s said that the truth will set us free.

And it’s true. When the truth comes from a sincere heartfelt place. It can work wonders in our lives. We can tell when we get this kind of truth, whether it’s from a loved one, a stranger, or from watching a Youtube video of someone talking in front of a camera. We can feel that this sincere truth is from a loving place.

Sadly, not everyone speaks the truth in this way. There’s this dangerous belief that just because a person tells the truth (even if it’s in a brutal nasty way), it's okay to accept — because it’s the truth or facts. Not all truth-telling is good truth-telling and not everyone who gives you the ‘’hard’’ truth has your best interests at heart.

The intent is vital when it comes to listening to people who give us the truth. If a person has no love for you at all, then they’ll relish in their opportunity to be harsh with you and use their truth to hide their meanness in it. It’s a classic tactic narcissists like to do on those who they lack empathy for.
