My parents put us on to a lot of different music from different periods.

Rock, Funk, Disco, Pop, a little Hip Hop, 80s music, 70s music, Michael Jackson, etc. But, the music I remember hearing the most growing up was gospel music. It was mainly gospel from old southern gospel groups.

Gospel music is a genre of Christian music. The creation, performance, significance, and even the definition of gospel music varies according to culture and social context. Gospel music is composed and performed for many purposes, including aesthetic pleasure, religious or ceremonial purposes, and as an entertainment product for the marketplace. Gospel music often has dominant vocals (often with strong use of harmony) with Christian lyrics. Gospel music can be traced to the early 17th century

Black gospel, by far the best-known variant, emerged out of the African-American music tradition and has evolved in various ways over the years…
