A Story On How The Summer Of 2005 Was Unforgettable To Me

The summer of 2005 was a great one for me. A year had passed, since my family moved to San Antonio, Texas. My dad and my stepmom got back together, after having disagreements that derailed their relationship a couple of months before. So, dad, my younger brother, and I ended up moving back into her house.

I caught Kanye fever that summer. Although I discovered Kanye in June of 2004 and loved his song Jesus Walks (And the musical videos), Outkast’s music still had such a stronghold on me in 2004, that it took a while for their spell to wear off on me, so I could check out more music.

I couldn’t get enough of his The College Dropout CD, and other projects he worked on (Production-wise or as a rapper)like Common’s album Be & John Legend's album Get Lifted. His recent single Diamonds was playing on BET and MTV. Then Gold Digger came out of nowhere and just blew my mind. That colorful music video was hard to turn away from. That was all I listened to during that summer.

I was also obsessed with The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air. I would watch it on Nick At Nite from 8 pm to 3 am (Sometimes 4 am) in the morning.

I continued to enjoy going to choir rehearsals to rehearse songs that our youth choir…
