Before reading The Color Purple, movie scenes of the 1985 film were all I had of the world Alice Walker created for a long time. The movie was big in my household (And other black households in my neighborhood) growing up in the 90s.

Kids that I went to school with, would say quotes from the movie, whether it was in school or only on the school bus during my elementary/middle school years.

I remember seeing the book in my sister's room with the same illustration on the movie cover.

My favorite part was the ‘’Time to go, time to go’’ scene. That part always cracked me up ever since I saw it as a kid. Every now and then, I’ll yell out ‘’Time to go’’ like how Albert, Sofia, and Harpo said it in the movie.

This great scene always gives me goosebumps and uplifts my spirit.

The ending of the movie is also uplifting & heartwarming with Celie and Nettie reuniting.
